The NCS difference

More than a license.
Deeper neuro expertise.

All physical therapists are trained to help people move better. An NCS is a licensed PT who has gone further—earning advanced board certification in neurologic physical therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

Know the credentials

DPT or master’s PT?
Why advanced education matters.

Traditional master’s-level physical therapy programs are two years long and often provide less clinical experience compared with doctoral pathways. The shorter format offers less time for advanced training in clinical decision-making, specialization, and hands-on preparation for complex patient needs.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) places a greater focus on clinical training, examination and diagnosis, evidence-informed treatment planning, specialty practice, and preparing PTs to stay current with emerging research in physical therapy.

For neurologic and vestibular conditions, choosing a DPT with advanced specialty training—especially a board-certified NCS—can mean more specialized evaluation, more precise treatment planning, and care grounded in the latest understanding of how the nervous system affects movement, balance, and recovery.
